University Of Michigan Doles Out $11 Million To Diversity, Equity And Inclusion Employees
The University of Michigan spends over $11 million on the salaries and benefits of its diversity, equity and inclusion employees, according to data published Wednesday.
The school’s vice provost for equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer Robert Sellers pulls in a sweet $396,000 annual salary, as revealed in data American Enterprise Institute scholar Mark J. Perry obtained.

“Dr. Sellers’ primary research activities have focused on the role of race in the psychological lives of African Americans,” the biography for Sellers said. “Dr. Sellers and his students have also investigated the processes by which African American parents transmit messages about race to their children. Finally, his research has examined the ways in which African Americans suffer from and often cope with experiences of racial discrimination.”
The next two top-paid diversity employees at UMich are the school’s associate dean for the office of health equity and inclusion, David Brown, who earns $220,000 per year, and UMich’s center for educational outreach director, William Collins, who rakes in $185,732 per year.
UMich pledged to invest $85 million in diversity from 2016 to 2021. The school is also the target of a lawsuit free speech nonprofit Speech First filed on May 8, which alleges UMich violates students’ free speech rights with a policy banning “bullying” and “harassment,” as well as through its bias response team, which Speech First President Nicole Neily termed “un-American.” (RELATED: University Of Michigan Sued For ‘Un-American’ Speech Codes)
