Former FBI Director James Comey lashed out at congressional Republicans on Wednesday and defended the FBI’s use of a confidential informant to spy on members of President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.
Republican congressional leaders are expected to meet with current FBI Director Christopher Wray and Department of Justice officials on Thursday to review classified information regarding the informant, Cambridge University professor Stefan Halper. Some Republicans have been critical of the FBI’s decision to spy on members of the Trump campaign.

“Facts matter. The FBI’s use of Confidential Human Sources (the actual term) is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country. Attacks on the FBI and lying about its work will do lasting damage to our country,” Comey wrote in a pair of blistering tweets. “How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?”
“Dangerous time when our country is led by those who will lie about anything, backed by those who will believe anything, based on information from media sources that will say anything,” he continued. (RELATED: Still Lacking Evidence Of Collusion, Democrats Move The Goalposts)
“Americans must break out of that bubble and seek truth.”
