President Donald Trump expressed his frustration that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation has cost taxpayers approximately $17 million since it began.

Mueller’s investigation has launched into its second year of existence with costs escalating between October 2017 and March 2018. The special counsel spent approximately $10 million during this period bringing the grand total to approximately $17 million.

The majority of the spending went to personnel compensation and benefits for staff with the remainder going towards building space, utilities, transportation, travel and other related operational expenses.

The recently released government report also showed that the Department of Justice spent nearly $5.5 million to directly support Mueller’s investigation, ratcheting the total spent even higher.
