C-Span’s Washington Journal grew intense Thursday morning when a 76-year-old woman phoned into the show and revealed that she had been sexually assaulted as far back as the second grade.

The call came on the heels of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee that she was sexually assaulted by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh at a party when she was 15.

Longtime C-SPAN host Steve Scully took the call.

“I’m a 76-year-old woman who was sexually molested in 2nd grade. This brings back so much pain,” said a crying “Brenda” from Valley Park, Missouri. “I thought I was over it but it’s not. You will never forget it. You get confused and you don’t understand it but you never forget what happened to you. Without my family I would never be able to go through this. …I thought I was over it until I heard this happened to someone else.”

Brenda phoned in on the Democrat line.

She explained her perpetrator was a seventh grader. She said recess plagued her with fear about seeing him. She said she’s had a weight problem her whole life because she “was so afraid that someone was going to hurt me.”

She said she hadn’t brought this up in years.

But then she heard Ford’s testimony.

“It is just breaking my heart,” she said.
