It’s been 14 years since the Red Sox last won the World Series, but bitter rivalries seem to last forever.
This was most recently evidenced on live TV during Game 5 of the World Series between the Red Sox and the LA Dodgers. Former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was sitting on a Fox Sports panel with former Yankee Alex Rodriguez, going over the details of the game.
Which is when former Red Sox catcher, Jason Varitek, came on set to surprise his former teammate. Both men had won the 2004 World Series together. And both men formerly had beef with A-Rod.

Well, it turns out, Jason Varitek still hasn’t exactly warmed up to A-Rod 14 years later.
Here’s their awkward interaction on live television Sunday night:

The look on A-Rod’s face pretty much says it all. A little confused, a little smug. But the best part of this is that Varitek is standing the whole time, while A-Rod just sits there all confused. Talk about an alpha move.
That’s what separates the Red Sox’s greatness from the Yankees’ OK-ness. Boston’s still kept their edge. They’re still chanting “Yankees Suck” at games that have nothing to do with the Yankees. They’re doing everything they can to maintain that underdog mentality. And it’s working.
