Interim Maryland head football coach Matt Canada might now be the man who takes over the Louisville opening.

Football Scoop reported the following on Canada meeting with the Cardinals athletic director Vince Tyra Monday:

Source tells FootballScoop Matt Canada is speaking with Tyra today. Canada earned accolades from some for the way he held things together at Maryland this season.

Prior to joining Maryland’s staff as offensive coordinator for DJ Durkin, Canada had spent one year as LSU’s offensive coordinator, one year at Pitt’s, 3 seasons as NC State’s, one as Wisconsin’s, one at Northern Illinois, etc…

I actually think this would be a great fit for the Louisville program. I think it could work very well. Canada has had a decent amount of success wherever he goes, and he could fill the void left after the firing of Bobby Petrino. (RELATED: Georgia Loses To Alabama After One Of The Dumbest Play Calls In Football History)

Plus, he made the best out of a very bad situation at Maryland this season.

Look, Canada is going to be a head coach somewhere someday. There’s no doubt about that at all. There might not be a better time than right now to scoop him up. If he led the Terrapins through the awful Jordan McNair situation and ensuing scandal, you’d think he’d be just fine to take over Louisville.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Cardinals pull the trigger on Canada. It might be the best option on the table at this time.
