It’s still the biggest reunion of veterans in American history.

On a field in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 55,000 Civil War veterans, including about 8,700 Confederate veterans, at this point all Americans under the United States, celebrated the 50th anniversary of the battle on July 4, 1913, complete with an address from President Woodrow Wilson.
