The inverted politics of intersectionality has become the “new orthodoxy” in parts of the left. It also helps explain why an increasingly divided left wing seems to be destroying itself from the inside out.
Intersectionality has created a system where the most “oppressed” identity or cluster of identities hold the most political capital. It has also weaponized identity in public debates within the left. People who are otherwise left-wing or liberal are finding themselves “cancelled” over opinions that the largely online mob deems offensive to one or more of these identities.
