Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is now poised to lead the Senate Budget Committee, a central role in shaping federal spending policies. He has also touted his “aggressive” plans to steer the Democrats’ economic stimulus package as soon as President-elect Joe Biden takes control of the White House.
Sanders will oversee the procedural power of budget reconciliation, which the Democratic majority could use to evade the filibuster and pass bills without a single Republican vote.
