BEHRENS: Massive Inflation Is Part Of Biden’s Green Tax

Middle class families trying to stretch their monthly budget didn’t need a government report to tell them prices are skyrocketing. They are painfully aware they are paying much more for less, and they all know the reason: Joe Biden’s man-made energy crisis.

The cost of heating a home in America could be as much as 59% higher this winter, a price the Biden administration concedes is a “multi-year” high. At the pump, gas prices are at a seven-year high after President Biden killed the Keystone pipeline and stopped energy production on America’s public lands. The last time gas was this high was when … Joe Biden was vice president. From his first day in office, Biden has rushed unabated into a fight to undermine America’s energy supply. Tragically, we are all now stuck with the bill.

It’s time to call these huge prices what they are: Joe Biden’s Green Tax on America.

It is clear that Biden’s misguided policies are having political consequences. You don’t get to a 38% approval rating on your own. Even nearly half of all Democrats think our country is on the wrong track, according to a new NBC News poll.

The reason we’re paying so much? Biden wants to force a transition of our electrical grid away from reliable fuels such as oil and natural gas to unreliable, and much more expensive, wind and solar. It’s worth noting California is moving down this road and the results are sadly predictable. Families in the Golden State pay high prices for electricity and gasoline, all while facing the ever-growing possibility of blackouts.

In Europe, the situation is more dire. Devotion to green “solutions” is leaving Europe with skyrocketing energy costs and even energy rationing, all while Vladimir Putin is playing politics with power. In the last bit of sad irony, Glasgow, the very city hosting the UN Climate Summit, is facing the possibility of blackouts this winter. With heavy reliance on wind energy, Europe is learning the hard way what happens when you take vital energy and make it dependent on something as finicky as the weather.

None of the reality is getting through to the Biden administration. They continue to act as if our energy industry, and the livelihoods it supports, is a pawn in their zero-sum game to appease their environmental special interests. When asked what the administration was going to do to increase oil production on American soil, all Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm could do was laugh. Apparently, Biden is just now learning that you can’t undermine supply without consequences on the demand … and our energy secretary thinks it’s funny.

Biden, Jennifer Granholm and the other elites that use taxpayer-funded SUV’s to get to work have the “luxury of detachment” from their terrible policies, but our families do not. The problem is so bad, Europeans have coined the phrase “fuel poverty.”

It doesn’t matter if you call it fuel poverty, a Green Tax or inflation, it was all preventable. This is a man-made crisis brought on by President Biden and his policies. Our families deserve better.
