After acquiring a set of free living room furniture off of Craigslist, a southern California woman discovered $36,000 in cash hidden in one of the couch cushions.

“I scrolled down and saw free items,” Vicky Umodu told ABC 7. “So, I clicked on it, and the first thing I came up with was this family that wanted to give a sofa, and everything in their bedroom set … I said maybe it’s a gimmick, so I called them.”

After the recent passing of a loved one, the family explained they were merely trying to clear out the property as quickly as possible, according to ABC 7.  Umodo opted to take two couches and a chair.

“I just moved in, and I don’t have anything in my house. I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in,” Umodo stated.

After examining the couches more closely, Umodo discovered something she initially believed to be a heating pad stuffed in one of the cushions, according to ABC 7.  Upon further investigation, Umodo found the “heating pad” was actually several envelopes stuffed with cash amounting to more than $36,000. “I was just telling my son, come, come, come! I was screaming, this is money! I need to call the guy,” Umodo exclaimed.

Though she wasn’t expecting it, Umodo says the family gave her $2,200 as a reward, enough to buy a new refrigerator.

“God has been kind to me and my children, they’re all alive and well, I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?” Umodo stated.
