Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre Wednesday on Democratic Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ remark suggesting abortion is a solution to inflation.

Abrams was responding to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” contributor Mike Barnicle’s question on possible strategies to alleviate inflation’s impact on American families. She suggested abortion is a necessary solution because children worsen the economic strain on families. (RELATED: Doocy And Jean-Pierre Debate Gas Prices In Frosty Exchange)

“Let’s be clear: having children is why you’re worried about your price or gas, it’s why you’re concerned about how much food costs. For women, this is not a reductive issue,” Abrams said. “You can’t divorce being forced to carry an unwanted pregnancy from the economic realities of having a child. And so these are, it’s, it’s important for us to have both, and conversations.”

Doocy asked the press secretary for her response.

“In Georgia, the president’s endorsed candidate for governor Stacey Abrams is suggesting that to mitigate the effects of inflation is to get an abortion,” Doocy said. “Does President Biden agree?”

“I did not see her comments on this, so I don’t know the context of this,” Jean-Pierre said. “Again, I want to be careful because this is a political debate and it’s related to the midterms and an election so I’m not going to comment on that.”

Doocy also asked Jean-Pierre why oil companies would listen to an administration that is allegedly trying to “put them out of business” due to President Joe Biden’s promise to put an end to fossil fuel. The press secretary said oil production is at record high levels under the Biden administration and criticized oil companies for refraining from using 9,000 approved permits.

He previously asked Jean-Pierre at Tuesday’s briefing if the president prioritizes inflation or abortion and whether the president is truly upholding his promise to lower fossil fuel by tapping the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR). The press secretary made the same argument that oil companies are taking all of the opportunities open to them.
