New York Giants player Xavier McKinney announced Monday that he will be sitting out for several weeks due to an injury he suffered while on an ATV in Mexico.

“During our bye week, I went away to Cabo. While there, I joined a group for a guided sight-seeing tour on ATVs. Unfortunately I had an accident and injured my hand,” McKinney said. He added that the accident will keep him “sidelined for a few weeks.”

McKinney’s injury is untimely. He is a key player on the Giants and was named team captain for the season. However, the star athlete reassured his fans that he wants to heal-up and jump right back into the game as soon as possible. “I will do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible so I can contribute to what we’re building here in NY,” McKinney wrote.

McKinney has already logged 38 tackles, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble this season, according to ESPN.

His fans were quick to respond to his Twitter post with words of encouragement and support for a speedy recovery.
