A father found his two children stabbed to death and covered with clothes in a bathtub inside a New York City homeless shelter Saturday, the New York Post reported. Police reportedly charged the mother with murder Sunday.
Police first responded to a 911 call around 7:20 p.m. mostly likely triggered by a carbon monoxide alarm inside the residence, the New York Post reported. They found the stabbed boys’ mother “acting irrationally” and attempting to burn items in her kitchen, the outlet continued. Officers took the woman to a local hospital and turned off the water running in the bathtub, not knowing that the dead children were concealed there under the clothes, the New York Post reported.
Police later charged the mother, Dimone Fleming, with two charges of intent to murder, murder and murder with depraved indifference to a person less than 11 years old, according to the New York Post.

A family friend reportedly told police that the children were with their father.
“There wasn’t anything obvious to suggest there were dead kids in there,” a police source said, according to the Post. “There was no blood.”

Police and another family member tried to resuscitate the two children before the ambulance arrived, reported CBS New York. However, the two children were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Police have identified the boys as 3-year-old Deshawn Fleming and 11-month-old Octavius Canada, reported The New York Post.
Shannon Holyfield, a neighbor, saw the father of the two children, The New York Post reported. “He was screaming hysterically,” Holyfield said. “He was screaming ‘help me!’ And I came and opened my door and I see him coming down the hall with the two boys in his arms.”
