Members of the College Football Playoff Board of Managers announced Wednesday that, beginning in 2024, the playoffs will expand from four teams to twelve.

“More teams and more access mean more excitement for fans, alumni, students and student-athletes,” said college football playoff executive director Bill Hancock.

This is a great idea. Since the college football playoffs began in 2014, it seems as if great teams keep just barely missing the cut to play in the tournament. (RELATED: Tua Tagovailoa Is Up For MVP, Has The Miami Dolphins At 8-3 And It All Started With A 700-Play Tape)

The expansion bodes well for fans who are sick and tired of seeing the likes of Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, LSU and Clemson monopolizing postseason competition every year. Finally, we’ll get to see competitive teams take a real shot at dethroning a top program in the nation and becoming one themselves. It will also give players from smaller schools the chance to impress NFL scouts on a national level.

From a fan’s perspective, more football is always a very good thing. I don’t see how this could possibly be perceived by anyone as something other than a positive.
