Project 21, a black leadership group for the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), sent a letter to Elon Musk Tuesday requesting a meeting to discuss the “other side of the black experience” on social media.

Project 21 hopes to “counter” recent demands from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), National Urban League (NUL) and National Action Network (NAN), which are “an obvious attempt to influence Twitter’s move toward free speech and inclusivity of divergent viewpoints,” according to a Project 21 press release. Project 21 intends to partner with Twitter to provide “a balanced view of black opinion” that supports free speech and fights against “efforts by the left and the Biden Administration” to limit free speech, according to the release. (RELATED: Musk Releases Details On How Twitter Censored The Hunter Biden Laptop Story)

“With Elon Musk’s recent acquisition of Twitter and his commitment to the tenets of free speech, Project 21 seeks to partner with the new Twitter chief executive in ensuring that the diversity of voices in the black community are represented fairly,” Project 21’s chairman Horace Cooper said. “There has been much fearmongering about rising white supremacist propaganda and racial and religious hatred on the Twitter platform that simply isn’t genuine.”

Project 21 was founded over 25 years ago and works to promote views of “black Americans whose entrepreneurial spirit, dedication to family and commitment to individual responsibility have not traditionally been echoed by the nation’s civil rights establishment,” according to the letter. The group describes itself as a research and communications foundation that works to strengthen black families and American values, while also promoting conservative and libertarian black leaders in the media.

The leadership group believes it has become “abundantly evident” that social media collusion with the government and censorship are real, and credits Musk for releasing documents connected to Hunter Biden’s laptop over the weekend, according to the letter.

“We applaud Mr. Musk in his recognition that the protection of free speech is indeed ‘a battle for the future of civilization,’” Cooper continued.

The letter said that Project 21 has been censored by Big Tech companies on many occasions, and pointed to the most recent example where YouTube took down two of its videos and suspended its account. The account was suspended for a week, and YouTube offered an explanation that was “clearly inappropriate” given the group’s content, according to the letter.

“What these groups consider controversial views that harm and undermine our democracy are simply balanced views from black Americans with perspectives differing from their own,” the letter said.

Twitter, the NAACP, the NUL and the NAN did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
