A man in Chicago is in custody after reportedly shooting at an ambulance Wednesday night when allegedly it did not get out of his way.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., when emergency responders were in the process of transporting a 79-year-old patient to the hospital, ABC7 Chicago reported.

“About 9:15, an ambulance pulls up across the street and they were here for maybe ten minutes before they brought a guy and put him in the back of the ambulance,” a neighbor told the outlet. “A guy in a white car pulls up behind him and starts honking. He wasn’t waiting long. He starts honking and tries to open the driver’s side door and bangs on the window.”

In addition to banging on the door, the neighbor recalled seeing the man attempt to move the ambulance himself before walking back to his car and firing at least six shots at the emergency vehicle before driving away, ABC7 reported. “Yeah he did shoot at the ambulance,” the neighbor told the outlet. “The bullets landed in the back door. We saw them.”

“It’s not common, not in this neighborhood and not on this street,” the neighbor continued. “Within a mile, maybe. Not here though.”

Police were able to later track down a 34-year-old suspect whose car and appearance matched the description given to them by witnesses, according to ABC7.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
