Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman of New York tried to brush off the severity of allegations that President Joe Biden talked with business associates of his son Hunter while serving as vice president.

Goldman’s comments came on the day that Devon Archer, a former business partner of Hunter Biden, testified before the House Oversight Committee that Joe Biden spoke to Hunter Biden’s business associates over 20 times. Goldman argued that these conversations were innocent and not related at all to Hunter’s business dealings. (RELATED: ‘I Hope The House Does Proceed’: Ron Johnson Says Hunter Biden Should Be ‘Concerned’ About House Investigation)

“They’d talk about the weather,” Goldman said at one point during the press conference. “He described it several times. They asked over and over and over, he described what the weather was, what’s going on at your end. The witness was very, very consistent that none of those conversations had anything to do with any business dealings or transactions.”

Goldman also defended Joe Biden at another point.

“He never said that he has never spoken to anyone. He said that he had nothing to do with Hunter Biden’s business dealings,” Goldman said during a press conference. “If he says hello to someone that he sees his son with, is he supposed to say, ‘Hi, son, I’m not going to say hello to the other people at the table or the other people on the phone.’ It’s kind of a preposterous premise to think that a father should not say hello to people that the son are at dinner with… the son is at dinner with, and that is literally all the evidence is.”

Hunter Biden pled not guilty to all charges after the plea deal collapsed when United States District Judge Maryellen Noreika rejected both the initial plea deal and a more limited revision Wednesday.
