MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said Friday that he was once blown away by two Trump supporters, one of whom supported Trump’s policies but differed with the former president on abortion.

The “Morning Joe” panel were discussing abortion and it being a key issue in both the 2022 elections and the 2024 elections. Scarborough said focus groups show voters tend to support more pro-abortion policies.

“Here’s an issue … this is not just the dog chasing the car, catching the car and not knowing what to do with the car. This is the dog chasing the car, catching the car, the car stopping and running over it like ten times, forwards and backwards,” Scarborough joked. “The issue of abortion right now, undefeated. Americans are mad and I will tell you there’s always focus groups, sometimes you see focus groups and you’re like ‘cmon man.’ But there have been a couple of focus groups that have really cut through. There was one back in 2016 where we had a working class woman who loved Harley’s, tattoos all over her and they said, ‘why do you like Donald Trump?’ and the answer was, ‘Because he’s one of us.’ And we all looked around the table like, ‘oh shit.'”

Scarborough then cited another focus group including a man who Scarborough said bought into all of Trump’s “conspiracy” theories but when it came to abortion, the voter was pro-choice. (RELATED: Abortion Providers Sue Alabama For Near-Total Ban, Allege Constitutional Violation)

“‘I’m a man, that’s none of my business. That’s a woman’s business, the government should stay out of it,’ and that was another one of those moments where you’re like, ‘holy cow this one cuts across every–’ and we’re seeing that in Montana and Kentucky and Kansas and Ohio and Wisconsin. This is really a massive issue going into next year’s senate races,” Scarborough said.

Abortion was an “extremely important” issue among Democrats in the days leading up the 2022 elections, a Gallup poll found. Among Democrats, 51% said abortion was extremely important while 38% of independents and 37% of republicans said the same. A January poll from The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic charity organization, found 61% of Americans self-identify as pro-choice.
