Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is warning children’s hospitals in the state their medical licenses will be revoked if they do not cease providing sex changes to kids.

Missouri’s Republican Gov. Mike Parson signed a bill into law in June which prohibits giving puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to children until August 2027. However, the bill allows for patients to receive these medications if a doctor prescribed them before the law took effect. The law halts transgender surgeries for minors as well. Bailey also announced an emergency regulation clarifying gender transition interventions are “experimental” in March.

“I write to inform you that as of 12:00am this morning, § 191.1720, RSMo (the “SAFE Act”) is the law of the land. Under the terms of the SAFE Act, you must immediately cease and desist performing gender transition surgeries on minors,” Bailey wrote in the letter. “Further, although under the SAFE Act you may continue providing puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones to patients already receiving them before August 28, you are barred from administering such experimental ‘treatments’ to any new patients.” (RELATED: Missouri Republican Launches Bid To Enshrine Abortion Exceptions In State Constitution)

“I remind you, too, of the SAFE Act’s enforcement provisions. Any health care provider or entity who knowingly violates the SAFE Act is engaging in professional misconduct as a matter of law and ‘shall have his or her license to practice revoked.’ § 191.1720.5 RSMo. Further, the SAFE Act creates an individual cause of action for victims who are harmed by individuals or entities providing ‘treatments’ barred by the Act, including the prescribing or administering of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones,” Bailey wrote.

Bailey is currently investigating the Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital after whistleblower allegations revealed the clinic was rushing children into transitioning without properly screening for mental health problems. The former gender clinic worker, Jamie Reed, alleged parent’s rights were steamrolled and the clinic consistently sided with parents more friendly to the idea of a gender transition than those who were not.

The New York Times (NYT) confirmed whistleblower Jamie Reed’s account of gender transitions at the hospital last week. The NYT interviewed dozens of patients, parents, former employees and medical professionals for its report on the St. Louis transgender clinic. They also examined hundreds of pages of documents Reed shared with the outlet.
