The States Project, a Democrat-aligned group, spent $60 million across five swing states last year as part of an effort to proliferate liberal policies, the New York Times reported.

The group focuses on getting Democrats elected to state legislatures and aids them once elected in order to get more liberal policies passed, according to its website. The States Project’s is a joint initiative between PAC For America’s Future, which receives funding from George Soros’ Democracy PAC, and Future Now Action, a 501c4 dark money group that does not disclose its donors, according to the organization’s website.

Of the $60 million the group spent in 2022, most of it went directly to Democratic candidates and legislative caucuses in Arizona, Michigan, Maine, Nevada and Pennsylvania, though some was also spent on political advertisements, according to the NYT.

The States Project, which refused to disclose its donors to the NYT, lists “empowering people over special interests” as one of its policy goals. The group also sees expanded access to abortion, changing voting laws and addressing climate change as priorities, according to its website. Automatic voter registration has been either passed or introduced in states including Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Wisconsin, according to the group’s website.

The States Project also aids candidates once elected by providing them access to an online policy library and connecting them with people who can help them advance their agendas, according to the NYT.

The group maintains “a message-board-meets-liberal-dating-service interface” that matches liberal lawmakers so they can work together on legislative projects, the NYT reported. Democrats have praised the service and credited it with increasing their efficiency.

The States Project did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
