CNN’s senior legal analyst Elie Honig explained Wednesday why former President Donald Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows is the most “problematic witness” in the Fulton County case against Trump.

Unidentified sources told ABC News that Meadows has spoken with special counsel Jack Smith’s team at least three times in the past year and was granted immunity to testify under oath.

ABC News reported that Meadows allegedly told prosecutors he never saw any evidence of fraud. Honig said the admission, if true, is “huge.”

“Mark Meadows …if he is fully telling the truth, he is the single most important witness prosecutors could have. Who was closer to Donald Trump during those key moments leading up to and during January 6 than Mark Meadows? And if we now have the chief of staff, the person closest to Donald Trump, the person who all the information filters in through to get to the president, and he says ‘I knew there was no fraud, I knew this was nonsense,’ that is a huge win for prosecutors.”

Co-host Poppy Harlow then noted that ABC News’ reporting alleged Meadows told Smith that he intended to resign over concerns that the allegations of election fraud were untrue but he didn’t. (RELATED: CNN Legal Analyst Explains How Sidney Powell Is ‘Bigger Threat’ To Trump)

“That makes him a bit of a problematic witness. First of all the fact that his book is 320 pages, it’s filled with lies according to his own testimony now. And that is a problem. Look, no witness is perfect for the prosecutor, but now if you are going to put Mark Meadows on the stand, he has to say, ‘Yes, I lied to the American public for a long time. My book is filled with lies but now I’m telling the truth. ‘ There’s ways to deal with that as a prosecutor. You have to explain why this person has now seen the light, but it makes him imperfect to be sure.”

Meadows pleaded not guilty in September to charges in the Georgia 2020 election cause. Meadows faces two charges: violating Georgia’s “Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations” (RICO) Act and Solicitation of Violation of Oath by a Public Officer.
