Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy raged at House Speaker Mike Johnson and his fellow Republican colleagues over the “abomination” of a spending bill Thursday.

The newly released $1.2 trillion spending package would keep the possibility of a government shut down off the table and allocate money toward the departments of State, Labor of Health and Human Services and Homeland Security, as well as financial services, CBS News reported.

“It’s total lack of backbone, total lack of leadership and a total failure by Republican leadership,” Roy told Steve Bannon. “There’s no other way to describe it. This bill is an abomination. I don’t even have words for any Republican that votes for this bill. I promise you I will not be going out and supporting any Republican who votes for this bill for any position ever again. It’s absolutely unsupportable by anybody who is a self-proclaimed conservative.”

He lamented against the bill for increasing the national deficit and for funding the new FBI headquarters and the World Health Organization (WHO). He suggested Republicans are not living up to their word to fighting against transgender procedures, abortion and several agencies such as the FBI and Border Patrol by introducing this bill. “We continue to fund abortion tourism, we continue to fund transgender surgeries at the Department of Defense, and you and I both care intently about the border … We know that radical progressive Democrats led by Biden want our borders to be open, to destroy our sovereignty, to pile people into our country, to allow, yes, criminals who act like animals as the former president [Donald Trump] said to kill Americans. Yes, Democrats are doing that, and what’s the Republicans response? Give them more money!” the congressman added.

“This is an embarrassment. Today, everybody listening to this show, light up your congressmen and congresswomen. Light them up, light up your senators. Tell them the truth — that they are risking the House majority if they vote for this bill. A vote for this bill is a vote against America. A vote for this bill is a vote for the mass parole and release of criminals that are killing Americans. Any Republican who votes for this bill owns the murders, the rapes and the assaults of the people who are being released into our country. There is no defense of it, period,” Roy concluded.

Johnson praised the legislation saying his party “achieved significant conservative policy wins,” according to CBS News.

“This FY24 appropriations legislation is a serious commitment to strengthening our national defense by moving the Pentagon toward a focus on its core mission while expanding support for our brave men and women who serve in uniform,” Johnson reportedly stated. “Importantly, it halts funding for the United Nations agency which employed terrorists who participated in the October 7 attacks against Israel.”

The bill intends to increase U.S. Immigration and Customs and Enforcement’s (ICE) detention beds from 34,000 to 42,000 and fund approximately 22,000 more Border Patrol agents, according to the outlet.

Sen. Patty Murray, a top Senate Democrat, praised the legislation as a “bipartisan compromise,” according to CBS News.

“We defeated outlandish cuts that would have been a gut punch for American families and our economy-and we fought off scores of extreme policies that would have restricted Americans’ fundamental freedoms, hurt consumers while giving giant corporations an unfair advantage, and turned back the clock on historic climate action,” Murray reportedly stated.

Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee said Murray rejected his proposal to give members until April 12 to review the 1,012 paged bill.

“Senator Murray objected—again—to my offer to give members until April 12th to review, debate, and amend the 1,012-page spending bill that we received at 2:30 am today. She’s insisting that the only option we have is to pass that bill now—or be accused of a government shutdown,” Lee said.

Republican Montana Sen. Matt Rosendale called the legislation the “D.C. Cartel’s minibus,” echoing Roy’s suggestion that it will leave the U.S.-Mexico border open.

Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz suggested to the Daily Caller News Foundation that it is hypocritical of House Republicans to give money to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after they attempted to impeach him.
