A Friday “Morning Joe” segment came to an abrupt halt when panelists said the studio in New York City began to shake.
A magnitude 4.8 earthquake hit New Jersey on April 5, with shaking reported throughout the region, including New York. The MSNBC panel did not know what caused the shaking, but weighed several possibilities before the segment ended with host Joe Scarborough saying “we’ll see what’s going on here.” (RELATED: Insane Videos Emerge From Massive Earthquake In Taiwan)
“The studio just shook to the point where it felt like an earthquake similar to the one … it’s still going though,” MSNBC’s Jonathan Lemire said.
“We’re all feeling it in here,” Scarborough said, adding that it felt akin to a train.

“There is a train that runs under this building, but it’s several floors below where we are,” Lemire said. “We don’t normally feel the train.”
Lemire asked if it was possible that it was construction occurring in the building.
Scarborough continued to address the reported shaking after returning from the break, noting that they did not receive any reports about the cause.
“We’re still sorting through whether it was Reverend Al’s preaching or brother Johnson’s preaching,” he said. “I’m not sure, Rev … I’ve been doing this now for 17 years in the building, never felt that. The cameras shook. We’re not getting any reports of anything at all. Some people are saying, could it be construction? No, we’ve had construction here before too.”

The shaking occurred as NAACP President Derrick Johnson was answering a question on the “vilification” of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).
“Diversity, equity and inclusion,” Johnson said. “We must say the words so we can understand the meaning and not allow initials that mean something else. Diversity, equity and inclusion is the reality of the future. It is the reality of today. We will rob ourselves of opportunities in this nation and a global economy if we don’t lean into the most talented individuals in this country.”
Corporations started implementing DEI policies rapidly after George Floyd’s death in May 2020, spending around $340 billion to advance “racial equity” between then and October 2022, according to the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility. Companies have become more worried about DEI after the Supreme Court struck down race-based admissions at universities in June, and many have reversed course, Axios reported in January.
