C. Fred Bergsten and Frank G. Wisner

C. Fred Bergsten was Founding Director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics from 1981 through 2012 and is now Senior Fellow and Director Emeritus there. He has been a member of the President’s Advisory Committee on Trade Policy and Negotiations since 2010. Dr. Bergsten was formerly Assistant Secretary for International Affairs of the US Treasury (1977-81), functioned as Under Secretary for Monetary Affairs (1980-81) and was Assistant for International Economic Affairs to the National Security Council (1969-71). He was Chairman of the Competitiveness Policy Council created by the Congress (1991-95) and Chairman of the APEC Eminent Persons Group (1993-95). This is the 44th book he has written, co-authored or edited including most recently India’s Rise: A Strategy for Trade-Led Growth (2015), Addressing Currency Manipulation through Trade Agreements (2014), Bridging the Pacific: Toward Free Trade and Investment Between China and the United States (2014), and The Coming Resolution of the European Crisis (2012). Dr. Bergsten has received the Meritorious Honor Award of the Department of State (1965), Exceptional Service Award of the Treasury Department (1981), Legion d'Honneur from the Government of France (1985), an honorary fellowship in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (1997), the Distinguished Alumni Leadership Award from the Fletcher School (2010), the Order of the Polar Star from the Government of Sweden (2013), the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2014), the Swedish American of the Year for 2014 and the 1st Class of the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit “Gwanghwa Medal” from the Republic of Korea. Frank G. Wisner is an International Affairs Advisor at Squire Patton Boggs, LLP. A career diplomat with the personal rank of Career Ambassador, he previously served as Ambassador to India from 1994-1997. Additionally, he held the positions of Ambassador to Zambia (1979-82), Egypt (1986-91), and the Philippines (1991—92). Mr. Wisner has served in a number of positions in the U.S. government, including Undersecretary of Defense for Policy (1993-94), Undersecretary of State for International Security Affairs (1992-93), Senior Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs (1982-86), and Deputy Executive Secretary of the Department of State (1977). During the course of his career, Frank Wisner served in the Middle East and South and East Asia. After leaving government service, Mr. Wisner joined the American International Group, where he was named Vice Chairman, External Affairs. He returned to government in 2005 to represent the Secretary of State as her special representative to the Kosovo status talks. Today Mr. Wisner is a member of the Boards of Directors of AIG Property Casualty, and EOG Resources, as well as the boards of numerous non-profit organizations. He is an advisor to SeaOne and American Tunisian Enterprise Fund. A native of New York, Mr. Wisner was educated at Princeton University.
