Candidate for Congress, Virginia 7th District

David Brat Chaired the Economics & Business Department at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia for the past six years. He is currently running for Congress in a primary challenging Eric Cantor on June 10. Dave received his Ph.D. in Economics from the American University in Washington, D.C. He earned his B.A. in Business at Hope College, a small liberal arts college in Holland, Michigan and he earned a Masters in Divinity at Princeton Theological Seminary. He has also worked for Arthur Andersen, the Army and the World Bank. He is primarily a professor of economics but he also has a deep interest in public policy. He has taught at Randolph-Macon for 18 years and he has recently received a large grant from BB&T to study and teach the moral foundations of Capitalism. He has been active in the Republican Party for many year and has volunteered his time for years in the Virginia General Assembly as special legislative assistant on education issues. He serves on the Governor's Advisory Board of Economists and the Board of the Richmond Metropolitan Authority. He also works with RABE, the Richmond Area Business Economists and served as President of the Virginia Association of Economists. Most recently he was appointed to the Virginia Board of Accountancy by the Governor. He is married to Laura and has two great kids, Jonathan and Sophia.
