Mary E. Harned is Staff Counsel with Americans United for Life. Mary’s expertise includes federal judicial nominations, abortion funding restrictions, healthcare reform, parental involvement legislation, and end-of-life issues.<br /> <br /> Mary formerly served as Chief Counsel to U.S. Senator Tom Coburn (R-Okla). During that time, Mary advised Dr. Coburn and assisted him on the hearings for all judicial nominations, including those of Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to that, she served as Legislative Counsel and Judiciary Counsel to Alabama U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions on the Senate Judiciary Committee.<br /> <br /> Mary has appeared in the media in her roll at AUL, including Fox News, CBN, National Review Online, The Washington Times, and numerous radio programs and print interviews.<br /> <br /> Mary graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama School of Law, where she was Lead Articles Editor of the Journal of the Legal Profession, a member of the Campbell Moot Court Board and Jessup International Moot Court Team, and was selected for the Order of the Barristers. Mary received her B.A. in Political Science from the University of Alabama, where she served as president of the campus pro-life organization. During college, Mary also served as a board member and counselor for the local pregnancy care center, and as Chairman of the College Republican Federation of Alabama from 1999-2000.
