OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) — McDonald’s Corp. said Thursday that it will donate $500,000 to victims of Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti. The amount will be matched with donations from franchisee Arcos Dorados, and the combined total is expected to be $1 million or more, the company said.
The company also said that from Sunday until next Friday, any restaurants run by Arcos Dorados in 19 countries will donate 50 cents from the sale of each Big Mac sandwich and Big Mac Extra Value Meals to quake victims.
Arcos Dorados — which means “golden arches” in Spanish — runs almost 1,700 McDonald’s restaurants in Latin America and expects to raise at least $500,000 through the effort.
Money raised through this effort will go to the International Federation of the Red Cross, along with McDonald’s contribution.
