Former President George W. Bush on Thursday appeared in his first-ever Facebook video address to say he’s busy writing his memoirs, raising money for earthquake relief in Haiti and working on policy initiatives.

“Thanks for tuning in to my inaugural address,” he says in the video with a smile. “On Facebook.”

In his classic Texas twang, Bush said, “As I tell people, I may be done with politics, but I am not done with policy.” He said his institute will promote “practical initiatives” in four key areas:  education reform, global health, economic growth and human freedom. The institute also focuses on empowering women in the Middle East, he said.

“Retirement isn’t so bad,” said the former president, calling his home in Texas “the promised land.”
