To burn or not to burn, that is the combustion

You didn’t think the whole Koran-burning story could possibly get more ridiculous, did you? Ha! Yesterday that kook in Florida, Terry Jones, told everybody he’d changed his mind about burning a bunch of Korans on 9/11 because… well, here, it’s too stupid to type out again after the Associated Press did already:

Jones said Thursday he would call off the planned burning of Qurans based on a deal negotiated with the president of the Islamic Society of Central Florida that the location of a mosque planned near ground zero in New York would be changed.

But Musri said he was clear on Thursday when he told Jones that he could only set up a meeting with planners of the New York City mosque, whose leader said he had spoken to neither the pastor nor Musri. Jones responded by opening the door, if only a crack, that he would go forward with his plan on Saturday.

“We are just really shocked,” Jones said of Musri. “He clearly, clearly lied to us.”

Yeah, or maybe you’re just stupid. Why would you think some guy in Florida could magically fix a huge national scandal in New York? Just because he’s a Muslim? Sure, he picked up a big red phone on his desk and said, “We gotta move the mosque, Feisel. No, you don’t understand, he’s got a box of matches.” Even if this Musri guy did make such a promise, the first question should’ve been: “So how did you pull that off?”

Of course, that’s assuming Jones isn’t just milking this for all the publicity he can get. I think AP at Hot Air called this one:

At the risk of stating the obvious, this tool really is an attention whore of historic, almost Levi-Johnston-esque proportions. Pretty soon he’ll be walking up to tourists holding camcorders, a Koran in one hand and a Bic in the other, yelling, “Don’t make me do it.”

For the first time ever, I feel the need to stand up for Levi Johnston. At least he’s got the excuse of only being 20 years old, spending 9 months in the womb of a drug addict, and being manipulated by the likes of Kathy Griffin. This Jones dude is a self-made jackass.

P.S. You’ve heard of guilt by association. Now try guilt by matriculation, courtesy of Politics Daily: Rush Limbaugh, Pastor Terry Jones Were High School Classmates. I’m with the PD commenter who asks: “Why do some people like Olbermann try to make a connection between Limbaugh and Jones but make a disconnect between Obama and Reverend Wright?”
