WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is stepping up diplomatic efforts to address the violent crackdown in Libya.
The White House says he’s planning calls to British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Nicholas Sarkozy to discuss possible moves to compel Moammar Gadhafi’s government to end violence against anti-government protestors.
Presidential spokesman Jay Carney says Obama wants a concerted and broad international effort to pressure the Libyan government.
International discussions have centered so far on a possible no-fly zone or economic penalties.
