Once again, the media plays dumb about a big story that’s right under their noses. Now it’s the LA Times (emphasis mine, because somebody has to say it):
A fire of unknown origin early Monday morning badly damaged a gift store near the panda exhibit at the San Diego Zoo.
The pandas and other animals were not harmed, a zoo spokeswoman said. The zoo will be open today as scheduled.
A zoo security guard spotted flames at the gift shop in Panda Canyon at 1:12 a.m. during routine rounds. San Diego firefighters extinguished the fire but the shop was “badly damaged and the contents were lost.”
The origin of the fire is under investigation.
Gee, I wonder who’s responsible for something bad happening near the panda exhibit? It’s a good thing none of the sweet, innocent pandas were harmed! Whatever would we do without our precious little pandas?
You can’t say you weren’t warned, people.
