Georgetown basketball surprising Big East and the nation

WASHINGTON – It’s almost hidden. This afternoon, it’s beneath a white dress shirt and a navy blue argyle sweater.

But when Georgetown men’s basketball coach John Thompson III reaches to turn on the air conditioner on an unusually warm winter day, a blue rubber bracelet peeks out of his sleeve. One side of the band reads GEORGETOWN; the other has five Chinese characters. They spell out the school’s name, too.

“When you go on foreign trips, you give out trinkets and gifts, so we gave these out all along the way,” Thompson says, reflecting on the Hoyas’ trip to China in August.
