Before his political conversion to conservatism, Brandon Darby was mentored by former Black Panther members and left-wing activists.

But Darby ultimately became disillusioned with the left. In 2008, he even worked with the FBI to stop his former comrades from violently disrupting the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota.

“I used to hate you,” Darby told The Daily Caller’s Ginni Thomas, explaining his political metamorphosis.

“I fell into a false narrative that I think many people fall into, which is that if you want to help people and you’re radical about helping, you’re a leftist, and if you want to help rich white people make profits and hurt other people and do it at their expense, you’re on the right.”

As a result of his shift from left to right, Darby says “the entire left media establishment attacked me.”

Darby still receives death threats from his former leftist colleagues for his work with the FBI, but that hasn’t prevented him from moving forward with his activism. He speaks at tea party rallies, writes for the Breitbart News Network and, in 2011, created Citizen Patriot Response, which promotes “social entrepreneurship by assisting, nurturing and incubating charitable projects,” according to its website.

TheDC will be publishing segments of the interview with Darby throughout the week. In a previous segment, Darby discussed the importance of Andrew Breitbart to his political development.
