Saturday night’s NASCAR Coke Zero 400 was rain-delayed and pushed to air on Sunday, causing it to run over a “Lord of the Rings” marathon.
Fans took to Twitter like a hobbit to Longbottom Leaf, crying about the life-crushing disappointment of missing seeing the movie for the nth time and complete with commercials.
Some Twitter users started talking about what the response would be before the marathon was interrupted.
I would love to see the reactions of people when Lord of the Rings is interrupted for the race in 5 minutes! #NASCAR

Wish granted.

And others said that getting mauled by a bear would be preferable to watching NASCAR.
Lord of the Rings > getting mauled by a bear > getting mauled by two bears > getting mauled by two bears and a giraffe > NASCAR

And yet other passionate fans declared that “LIKE NO ONE LIKES NASCAR.”
I WAS PROMISED A LORD OF THE RINGS MARATHON AND INSTEAD NASCAR IS ON. LIKE NO ONE LIKES NASCAR AND EVERYONE LOVES HOBBITS. #STOPTHEINJUSTICE

NASCAR fans responded.
Sorry Lord of the Rings fans but there’s a very important NASCAR race today so y’all gonna have to find a way to watch your movies elsewhere

But Lord of the Rings IS on TNT… pic.twitter.com/dRvlP26vgw

I’m sorry Lord of the Rings fans, but NASCAR is more important than a series of movies you probably saw 100+ times already.

All in all, the NASCAR race coming between the geeks and their beloved movie was a little like Gollum’s outlook on the Ring for most of the trilogy:
