MSNBC Live host Craig Melvin devoted a segment of his Thursday show to analyzing Hillary Clinton’s decrease in favorability since leaving her post as U.S. Secretary of State.

Melvin questioned if Clinton’s recent book tour actually hurt her image.

Ryan Grim, a MSNBC contributor and the Washington bureau chief for The Huffington Post, replied, “Well, there’s been a really disturbing trend for Hillary Clinton throughout her entire political career, and that’s the more she is in the public spotlight, the less the public seems to like her.”

Grim explained that there is a reason why Hillary Clinton was less popular as the First Lady than she was as Secretary of State, a position that does not garner incredible media attention. “When she gets out of the public eye, her favorability soars,” he asserted.

“As soon as she comes back into the 24-hour news cycle, you see this plummeting,” Grim observed.
