House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi hopes Mitt Romney is the next Republican nominee for president.

Romney could not beat Hillary Clinton in 2016, Pelosi told The Hill in an interview published Tuesday. “I mean, he might be a nice person,” she said. “No offense, no offense — [but] let’s save you time.”

“Let me put it this way,” she added smiling. “I hope he’s their nominee.”

Romney is considering running a third consecutive race, after a particularly disappointing loss in the 2012 election. He has many outspoken conservative critics. But a CBS poll released last week showed him dominating the current field of would-be contenders. (RELATED: Trump Slams Romney 2016: ‘He Choked Like A Dog Last Time’)

Fifty-nine percent of Republicans said they want him to run, compared to 26 percent who want him to stay out of the race. Jeb Bush was the second-favorite, with 50 percent who want him to run and 27 percent opposed.

In the same poll, 85 percent of Democrats said they want Hillary to run, with just 11 percent opposed. No other candidate came close in the poll, including Elizabeth Warren, who some progressives are urging to run.

“If [Hillary] runs, she will win the nomination,” Pelosi said.
