It’s like a game of Pac-Man. And it was only really a matter of time, but CapitalNY is no more. It’s now “POLITICO New York.”

Per a new memo from Politico, “POLITICO New York” will be spearheaded by three journalists — Tom McGeveran and Josh Benson, the co-founding editors of CapitalNY, and Katherine Lehr.

They’ll be leading the operation in New York, but will also be opening “outposts” in states nationwide like New Jersey and Florida.

“We are blessed with a brand people know and respect – and a publisher in Robert Allbritton who wants to spread it everywhere,” said President and CEO Jim VandeHei in a morning memo.

In other news… Politico will open a New Jersey bureau later in the year. They say more states will open bureaus at a later date.

In addition, the media staffs of CapitalNY and Politico will apparently merge into “one big media coverage machine.” Whatever that means. But McGeveran will oversee this operation as editor.

What does this mean for On Media‘s Dylan Byers? He declined to comment.

VandeHei is a true cheerleader in Politico‘s eagerness to take over the world.

“Hopefully, our ambitions are very clear to all of you now: we want to – no, we will – be the dominant political and policy media company in Washington, D.C. AND the states AND Europe AND ultimately everywhere,” he said at the close of the memo. “This is awesome and achievable. And it’s because of all of you, because your hard work, passion and insistence on always being the best at what you do.”
