New York Times reporter Helene Cooper said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that while the allegations that Hillary Clinton traded political favors for donations to the Clinton Foundation fed into negative perceptions of the Clintons, ultimately it wasn’t “that huge a deal.”

“The New York Times, your paper, did a big story on this Russian issue having to do with an uranium purchase,” host Chuck Todd said. “There is not a connection but there is the appearance of impropriety.”

“That’s the biggest problem,” Cooper said. “And it all takes us back to the 1990s. It feeds this aura that a lot of people have about the Clintons… people are now talking about the Lincoln bedroom again.” (RELATED: Clinton Foundation Fesses Up: ‘We Made Mistakes’)

“I don’t think that this is necessarily that huge a deal,” she continued. “But I think that this feeds a problem she is going to continue to have. And it brings up again the sort of, why didn’t they see this earlier?”
