If you don’t know who Shaun King is, congratulations on successfully avoiding the #BlackLivesMatter movement. King is a Daily Kos blogger and one of the self-styled leaders of BLM, along with DeRay Mckesson and a few others. This important job mainly consists of tweeting a lot about how white people are to blame for everything bad that ever happens to a black person.
As Chuck Ross has reported, King claims he was the victim of a white-on-black hate crime in 1995, but the evidence doesn’t back him up. And now, an even more fundamental question about King has been raised.
An investigative blogger has accused Shaun King, a key figure in the Black Lives Matter movement, of misleading media icon Oprah Winfrey by pretending to be biracial in order to qualify for an “Oprah scholarship” to historically black Morehouse College. The blogger says King is white and has been lying about his ethnicity for years.
King is a high-profile campaigner against “police brutality” and “justice correspondent” for the liberal Daily Kos website who told Rebel magazine in 2012 that he was biracial, with the magazine reporting that he is the “son of a Caucasian mother and an African-American father…”
A 1995 police incident report lists Shaun King’s ethnicity as white. And blogger Vicki Pate, who has been assembling forensic accounts of Shaun King’s background and family tree on her blog, “Re-NewsIt!,” has published her findings.
If Pate is right, Shaun King, who often uses black and white photographs of himself online rather than colour images, may have misled African-American hero Winfrey by applying for and accepting an Oprah Scholarship to the historically black Morehouse College. Oprah Scholarships are given exclusively to black men.
King has always claimed that his father is black. But King’s father, Jeffery, is white, says Pate…

So, why does this matter? I don’t know, why did Rachel Dolezal matter? That woman could’ve lived her whole life in obscurity, working for the NAACP in Spokane, and nobody would’ve been the wiser if her parents hadn’t outed her. She was living a lie, but was she hurting anybody? Did she browbeat her fellow white people daily from a national platform? Did she take a scholarship away from anybody? Did she con Oprah?
Dolezal was a small-time scammer in the second-biggest city in our 13th-biggest state, and her whole life has been destroyed. Will that happen to this guy? I guess it all depends on how many people have an emotional and/or financial investment in believing him.
White lives matter, but only when they pretend to be black.
And now the fun part: the mockery!
