Will Smith was just kidding when he said he wanted to be president.

In mid-December, the actor said he was frustrated by the “crazy” people who were running for office in 2016. He joked that if “people keep saying all the crazy kinds of stuff they’ve been saying on the news lately about walls and Muslims” they were going to force him to run.

“I mean, I gotta be the president,” Smith said at the time. (RELATED: Will Smith: These ‘Crazy’ Presidential Candidates Are Going To Force Me To Run)

But in a new interview, Smith said he wasn’t being serious about running.

“I was really kind of joking when I said that.”

Smith said his latest movie “Concussion” inspired him to make the comment. (RELATED: Kanye West Just Called This Republican Candidate ‘Brilliant’)

“As an actor, being able to be a part of that and to feel from the outsider’s perspective how great this country is, I sort of got inspired as I was looking at the current political landscape,” he added.
