The dreadful actions of some terrible for-profit companies have given America’s online education sector something of a bad name. That’s a shame because online education is a viable way to obtain worthy academic credentials from very real schools.
Quality online degree programs are available at ultra-prestigious colleges and — for the rest of us — at public and nonprofit schools which often offer tremendously inexpensive tuition prices.
Hot off the presses, OnlineU has just published its 2016 list of America’s most affordable online degree programs.
All the ranked schools are nonprofit institutions. Most of them are public schools.
Here are the top 14:
1. South Texas College in McAllen, Texas offers bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $3,450
2. Great Basin College in Elko, Nevada offers bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $5,013
3. Darton State College in Albany, Ga. offers bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $5,625
4. Western Governors University is a Salt Lake City-based nonprofit, online school offering master’s and bachelor’s degree programs and some certificates. Annual tuition: $5,780
5. Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas offers master’s, bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $5,824
6. Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Ga. offers doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $5,970
7. City Vision University is a Christian, online-only school in Kansas City, Mo. offering Master’s, bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $6,000
8. Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi offers doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $6,012
9. Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Ark. offers master’s, bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $6,480
10. Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Florida offers bachelor’s and associate degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $6,756
11. The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. offers doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degree programs as well as various certificates. Annual tuition: $7,027
