A Colorado resident criticized the Red Cross for putting up a pool safety poster depicting black children as people who break rules.
Hey, @RedCross, send a new pool poster to @SalidaRec bc the current one they have w your name on it is super racist pic.twitter.com/TY8MmFB3Qk
— John Sawyer (@JSawyer330) June 21, 2016
Colorado resident John Sawyer took issue with the picture because it shows white children obeying the rules, labeling them “cool.” While the non-compliant black children were labeled “not cool.”
Red Cross replied to the tweet apologizing and announce that it took down the poster.
Several twitter users said they could not identify the racist theme, and one user responded, “Are people seeing racism where none at all exists?”
