Chris Christie is now being actively vetted by Donald Trump’s campaign staff.
The news was first reported Thursday by The New York Times.
An unnamed source — with knowledge of the process — confirmed to CNN that the New Jersey governor “has received the official paperwork for the vetting process.”
Since dropping out of the 2016 presidential election, Christie has been one of Trump’s top surrogates in addition to heading up the campaign’s “transition team.” (RELATED: Christie To Lead Trump’s White House Transition Team, Pick Top Advisors)
Back in May, Christie stated he is “honored by the confidence being placed in [him] by Mr. Trump and [looks] forward to putting together a first rate team to assemble an administration to help best serve the president-elect and the nation.”
Several have previously made the case for Christie to be Trump’s running mate.
Conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, who recently endorsed the presumptive Republican nominee, claimed that the Orlando terror attack “strengthens the case” for a potential Vice President Christie. (VIDEO: Hewitt — Orlando Strengthens The Case For Christie, Cotton To Be Trump’s VP)
Just last week, former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski hinted that Christie was on a short list of four potential VP candidates. (RELATED: Lewandowski Says Trump Is Considering Four ‘Household Names’ For VP)
