A Vietnam veteran based in Michigan whose son was murdered by cartel killers, is reportedly very “excited” about the prospect of Republican nominee Donald Trump winning the presidency.

Robert Eggle has been mourning the death of his son Kris Eggle, a U.S. National Park ranger, for 14 years. The younger Eggle was gunned down Aug. 9, 2002 when going after cartel operatives in southern Arizona. Eggle told MLive he is “very gratified and excited that (Donald) Trump has been able to rekindle the discussion about the border.”

The cartel thugs who took Eggle’s life were wanted for multiple murders in Mexico. Eggle’s killer was shot and killed shortly after murdering Eggle.

Eggle’s father Robert says that his son, “was a natural leader. He was always the one out front setting the example and doing more than others were asking him to do.” “Kris had found his niche. He thought there was a necessity to his work.”

The Vietnam vet rejects status quo politics on both sides of the aisle which he believes “failed miserably” when it comes to the issues of illegal immigration and protecting the U.S.-Mexico border. Eggle believes that, “We have allowed illegal activities and smuggling to take precedent over law and order.”

Trump has made immigration and border security central planks of his campaign’s policy platform and messaging. Since the Republican primaries, Trump has insisted the U.S. should build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and he claims that as president, he would get Mexico to pay for it. Another key component of the Trump campaign’s immigration policy is doing away with birthright citizenship.

Back in March, Trump secured the endorsement of The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which is a U.S. Border Patrol agents’ union. NBPC has never previously endorsed a presidential candidate while the primaries were still underway. The NBPC stated in part, that they support the GOP nominee because, “Trump is correct when he says immigration wouldn’t be at the forefront of this presidential campaign if months ago he hadn’t made some bold and necessary statements.”
