NWSL player Megan Rapinoe took a knee during the national anthem to support Colin Kaepernick, but barely anybody was at the game to witness it on Sunday night.

Rapinoe, who plays for the Seattle Reign, confirmed it was intentional following the game. “It was a little nod to Kaepernick and everything that he’s standing for right now. I think it’s actually pretty disgusting the way he was treated and the way that a lot of the media has covered it and made it about something that it absolutely isn’t,” she told the media after the game against the Chicago Red Stars. (RELATED: Colin Kaepernick Will Remain Sitting During National Anthem [VIDEO])

A few dozen fans can be seen in the picture of Rapinoe that has since gone viral. Rapinoe also confirmed after the game that her bold move in front of dozens of people was meant to “keep the conversation going.” (RELATED: Hookstead’s Hot Take: America Stood Up For Colin Kaepernick, He Should Stand For The Flag)

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been the center of a media firestorm since he refused to stand for the national anthem during the NFL preseason.
