Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said during a United Nations address Monday that borders can’t stop the “fusion of cultures” and that “mestizo fusion” is the “destiny of human kind.”

“History shows that there are no barriers that can stop either the movement of people or the fusion of cultures,” Nieto said ahead of Tuesday’s summit on refugees.

“Neither natural nor artificial barriers hold sway. For every river there has always been a bridge. For every obstacle there has always been a way forward. Movement is an essential part of human existence.” (RELATED: America’s Public Schools Are Getting Significantly Less White)

Pena Nieto went on to say, “We are a proudly mestizo, multi-cultural and diverse nation.” Mestizos are the offspring of Europeans and Indians from the American continents. “We Mexicans firmly believe that this mestizo fusion is the future and destiny of human kind,” Nieto added.
