If Elected President, Hillary Clinton Could Make It Easy To Legally Switch Genders

Before Hillary Clinton spoke at a dinner hosted by left-wing LGBT activists last November, her staff wrestled over whether Clinton should use the opportunity to publicly declare her support for policies that would allow individuals to change their gender.

In an email to fellow campaign staffers, Clinton campaign LGBT outreach director Dominic Lowell suggested Hillary “go big and say that we support trans people being able to change their name and gender markers on government documents without onerous burdens or proof of surgery.”

While that specific position didn’t end in the final draft the speech, Clinton did declare her support for broader federal legislation that would require all public accommodations to let people use whichever bathroom they believe most closely matches with their gender identity.

The Clinton campaign didn’t respond to a request from The Daily Caller on whether or not she would support allowing men to legally change their gender to female while retaining their male genitalia. If elected, however, Clinton would almost certainly face pressure from the progressive wing of her party to come out in support of such measures.

Allowing people to change their gender without medical proof or advice is increasingly popular at universities across the country, which typically lean more liberal than the rest of the country.

The University of Michigan, for example, recently implemented an online system where students can change their gender name and pronouns with just a click. One conservative student promptly responded by changing his pronouns to “His Majesty.” (RELATED: Conservative Student Is Now ‘His Majesty’ After University of Michigan Lets Everyone Make Up Their Own Pronouns)

If Clinton were to push forward with such measures, don’t expect her to do so until after the election, as the general public holds a different view of transgender issues than progressives.

Polling conducted by The New York Times in May showed that 46 percent of the public oppose allowing biological men to use the women’s restroom, while 41 percent prefer letting people use whichever bathroom best represents their “gender identity.”

As for the Democratic nominee, despite multiple requests from TheDC, the Clinton campaign has not yet revealed Hillary’s gender identity, or her preferred pronouns.
