Suspects in Florida shot two Miami-Dade County police officers in an “ambush-style attack” Monday night.

The two plainclothes officers, members of the Homicide Task Force-Gang Unit, were in the middle of an investigation when the shooting occurred, reports USA Today.

Other officers at the scene took the two wounded cops to the hospital in a pickup truck. Both officers are in stable condition and are expected to survive.

“Individuals like this that have the audacity to ambush a vehicle unprovoked and open fire like that, are individuals in this community that are causing havoc and terrorizing this community day in and day out,” Maj. Hector Llevat said. “These are the officers that were out here to put a stop to that.”

Miami authorities are searching for the suspects, who are either 17 or 18 years old and wore dark sweatshirts when they shot officers, police said.
