Donald Trump saw a marginal increase in his approval rating after the United States launched a military strike on a Syrian airbase in response to a chemical attack in the country that left more than 80 people dead.

According to the results of the latest poll from POLITICO/Morning Consult, 48 percent of voters approve of the job the president has done in office, while 47 percent disapprove. That is two percent higher than what it was last week, before the strikes were carried out.

The increase also comes a few days after Neil Gorsuch was sworn in as the 113th justice of the Supreme Court.

That same poll — which surveyed nearly 2,000 people — also found that 66 percent of people support the strikes in Syria. However, only 39 percent supported putting military troops on the ground to remove Bashar al-Assad from power. “Sixty-three percent of Americans say the U.S. should be doing more in Syria, but when we ask what concrete actions should be taken, that support falters,” Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult’s co-founder and chief research officer, told Politico.

“For example, 57 percent support airstrikes, and 39 percent support putting troops on the ground to remove Assad. The only action that garners widespread support is imposing tighter sanctions, which 70 percent of Americans support.”
